new poems August 2024

Delighted to have two new poems in two fantastic magazines.

Flight Path in the Cornish edition of Inkfish is a poem inspired by the gliding paintings of the Cornish artist Peter Lanyon.

Foraging Hemlock is published in the fantastic Summer Solstice edition of Green Ink Magazine and will feature in my forthcoming pamphlet Poisons.

Louise Warren: “Foraging Hemlock”

Summer Solstice 24 Part 2

Jul 2

First, wild carrot, parsnip, parsley,

stirred into a hedgerow.

It is her hands moving into the dark,

scraps of gold leaf under her nails.

A pot of iron she dug up from the red earth,

a field she hopped over, a rabbit in a scrappy jacket.

A cup of rainwater gathered from a ditch,

already steaming from the dawn mist,

swallowing the sun in a pewter teaspoon,

now she is leaving by the back gate.

This woman spewing a bright yellow broom,

her tongue withering to a stalk, flying out of herself.

She is made plant, of a watery and earthy nature,

her soul loosened from her body, is this what you wished?
